British audio engineer, producer and musician, born 15 February 1942 in Epsom, Surrey, England, UK.

As a youth, Johns sang in the local church choir and later played washtub bass in a ragtag jazz group and guitar in a band called the Presidents. In 1959 he started his career as an assistant engineer at Turn Up-Down Studios.

Johns was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2012.
He is the father of Will Johns (2).
