Renaissance Ballroom

Profile:

The Renaissance Casino and Ballroom was a jazz music venue located in Harlem, New York City.
The casino was built by African American entrepreneurs and opened in early 1920s. Unlike the Cotton Club and Connie's Inn, that were restricted to whites only, the Renaissance Ballroom, along with the Small's Paradise, was integrated. The combination ballroom, casino and movie theatre was one of the first non-segregated institution of its kind.
The place declined during the Great Depression and has been closed since the 1970s.
