I'm shocked that Sub Pop hasn't reissued this on vinyl yet. We know anything with the words Nirvana and Soundgarden on it will always sell. Lesser known but still beloved bands like Mudhoney, Tad, and Beat Happening will have fans to back up their releases. If its a cost issue you could easily fit all the material on 2 LP's (3 sides if you want to get frisky) and put it in a standard gatefold sleeve. Hell it would make a perfect RSD release. C'mon Sub Pop, I just laid it all out for you on how to do it, get on it!

This 1989 CD release of the compilation 'Sub Pop 200' is seen by many as the stuff of legend. Teetering on the cusp of not only a new decade but a whole new wave of guitar based music, indie label Sub Pop were at the epicentre of the Grunge boom. Not only does this collection showcase some acts who were about to explode into the charts, but also includes the cream of the crop from an ever evolving alt. rock genre.
Many of these tracks are either exclusives or were released later down the line, including an early outing for newly signed Nirvana, a tirade of gruff spoken word mentality by the late great Stephen Burnstein and an energetic ode to the label from Soundgarden. There are also a spattering of covers, such as Girl Trouble's rendition of a deep cut from 60's band The Banana Splits, a by the numbers take on Hendrix by Screaming Trees and even a dour and dirty version of Bette Midler's 'The Rose' by Mudhoney!
This album is packed to the brim with Noise Rock, Proto Punk, Folk Rock and even an experimental oddity from Steve Fisk before coming to a close with a spaced out car crash put together by The Thrown Ups. If you're looking for a fantastic collection of late 80's alternative music from America then be sure to check this release out - you won't know what hit you! -
