Buzzcocks – A Different Kind Of Tension

I got this version. When held to a light, vinyl appears to be brown.

This reissue sounds great. I got this back in 1980's and it holds up.

This 24-bit 96kHz remaster (Qobuz), coming 40 years after its debut, sounds amazing. There's no ear daggers or boomy bass to contend with. I probably play this much louder than I should ;)

Labels state this reissue date has 1989 on EMI records

Is there a better Album than this that pushes the envelope of power punk into post punk?

i,ve a cassette of this lp. Not listed. suspect a bootleg. It has labels, sleeves etc. 747 New wave is written on the cover. 4365 new wave on the tape label both sides. Labels are 3 colours. Light blue, blue and white. Any ideas?

Another Porky Prime cut, and an album that has improved with age. Back in 1979 I was starting to lose interest in Buzzcocks and was getting more into the sounds of Wire, Joy Division, Gang Of Four, and PIL. Buzzcocks sounded a bit old.
In hindsight, this album is as forward thinking as the other acts i mentioned above. The songs sound more confident here and the end result is a more progressive album than it’s flaky predecessor. You can hear the influence of krautrock especially on side 2, and Shelley is starting to hear the possibilities that a studio could offer. I’m less keen on Steve’s three offerings. They sound a bit old fashioned compared to what Pete was coming up with. Saying that , Steve didn’t write anything quite as throwaway as YSYDLM which, out of all the early Buzzcocks singles really does sound unadventurous and playing it safe. Maybe after the left field dalliances with Everybody’s Happy Nowadays and Harmony In My Head the band felt that they should go back to the punk pop that they were masters of. This one, however, is just a bit too twee.
So, an interesting record and definitely one I would recommend. If you’re looking for something that sounds like the tail end of the first wave of British punk then this is a good example.
