I really like that the end of side 1 and the beginning of side 2 overlap for around 30 seconds so you can easily mix from side A to side B if you want to play the whole track and own two copies. Other split side releases (like Fizheuer Zieheuer) usually make a hard cut or fade-out without overlap so you're basically forced to DJ the digital version if you're going for the full version. The smart, slow build-up in this release makes it one of the very few tracks I really like to play out for 15+ minutes so I appreciate this a lot!

When I see the towers fall,
          It cannot be denied that,
          As a spectacle,
It is a realisation of the mind.
You see, I'm standing on a mountain top
          And letting out a scream,
It's the language of the earth,
It is the language of the beasts.
There's no point to look behind us,
          We left the corpse behind,
Because flesh is weak and forms break down.
          They cannot last forever.

The mind and spirit remain invincible.

I don't understand why people feel the need to analyse music, things are what they are.
The original is an almost beatless dubstep track and the Villalobos mixes are deep, tribal, minimal house mixes. In my opinion Villalobos should have made these mixes far more techno and clubby but then again that isn't what he does. This track is used to great effect on Francois K's masterpiece compilation as he plays a track with energy afterwards. It's all subversive anyway. Dance music is mainly a functional tool and tracks only really come alive when a DJ plays them in a certain context.

When Shackleton and Appleblim got word of Villalobos playing their records they ed him the parts for Blood On My Hands at a festival (wearing Skull Disco t-shirts and waving from behind the barrier) and thought nothing more of it. The remix landed in Appleblim's inbox a short time later. They couldn't believe it.

SKULL 007 sold buckets and Villalobos wanted no fee. This one record effectively saved Skull Disco, paying debt and sustaining the label into new releases. Shackleton returned the favour with a remix of Minimoonstar on Ricardo's Vasco EP the following year. Though that was only thirteen minutes :)

am i the only person who was completely underwhelmed by the villalobos remix? the original was, to me, eye opening. it is still one of my favorite tracks of all time. twas was my introduction to 'dubstep'...only later did i find there is NOTHING like shackleton. villalobos remix is typical villalobos churner, aided by the power of 'blood on my hands.' i'll give it another listen, but this is not even on the same level as the original. every once in a while, an artist comes and completely changes your perspective of what music is and can achieve. that is shackelton, hands down. the villalobos rmx adds nothing. i don't think a villalobos mix ever could, and i am not hating on the guy. he is extremely talented. he's just 'out there' in a different way.

                    i love the artwork, though.

Knowing the original version I must strongly disagree with Marellia's supposition 'I trully feel that the original piece only serve providing some raw material'. The original track is immensely powerful tribalish dubstep (so characteristic for Shackleton!) and all Ricard had to do was 'making it minimal'. However, what he did is really impressive and I would say that it's only a bit weaker than the original; on the other hand, it has more of dancefloor potential.
So, if you appreciate the remix listen to the original one - it really deserves it!

This release could be define like this: "he has done it again !".
A few month after the now (in)famous "Fizheuer Zieheuer", Ricardo Villalobos comes back with another ultra minimalist & repetitive monster, this time clearly presented as a remix, remix that this track is and is not.
These 18 minutes are the darkest work to date from the chilean, and are like the reversed medal of his 37 minutes serbian mix. The construction of the track is basically built on a 2 minutes circles that will repeat itself almost literally for 9 times, with small variations that tend to be more & more impresive as the tracks evolves.
I honestly don't know the Shackleton original track, but even I trully feel that the original piece only serve providing some raw material to built this strange work that is definitively pure villalobosian fantaisy.
Of course it's a matter of being touched by extreme repetition, hypnotism & micro-evolutions, if it's your case you will discover thousand delights, if no, forget it !
