I understand that the recording has a lot of noise as heard on the digital file, but it's not the recording or surface noise I'm hearing. my copy of this pressing is not good even compared to the bootleg. the right channel has some sort of distortion like it's coming out from a teared speaker. it's unlistenable. based on reviews, it seemed that this pressing is a hit or a miss. my advise for you is avoid gambling.

I had this pressing, but got rid of it because by the time of its cutting the source tapes had deteriorated quite audibly, to the point of sound dropping out - most vividly at the end of An Index of Metals. and I already had/still have a great sounding 1978 UK Polydor copy. looking back, I should have kept the 2014 release as well: there's poetry in the fact that a tape recording of a technology based on tape sound slightly deteriorating on every repeat, has itself audibly deteriorated by the time of another mastering. so, if nothing else, it's a historic document, and in itself an interesting listen.

Got a copy with the same matrix numbers. Side A sounds fine, but An Index of Metals has this light noise for the first two minutes I could call "gruff". Before the audio even fades-in, there's a bunch of mid-low "clicks" close together, sounding like short crackle, that happen periodically about every two seconds. Examining my vinyl under white light, I do see a bunch of faint light scuffs near the edge in a cluster, and could have been caused by taking it out of the polysleeve or shelf-wear from the vendor.

Anything after that point seems like it could be from the tapes, as it's not noise that I've normally heard on vinyl. A low-volume static sweep slightly to the right, although eventually around 11-12 minutes in it becomes nearly a second of static, almost pulsing, and it changes until disappearing around minute 17. In the last six minutes, another sweep builds into more crunchier static in both channels (which doesn't persist in the fade-out, so specifically could be distortion and tape noise). It's good to know that there are newer copies without issues, and it's possible that I received one of the copies that other reviews noted problems with in 2014. Should still be a caveat emptor that some of those early ones may still be floating around sealed.

A beautiful remaster - crystal clear, dynamic and with plenty of atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I've heard some of Eno's EG Pressings are to be avoided but my copy of this album plays pretty clean and quiet.

My friend Ron Rutkowski said this was the most beautiful album of all time.
I do not dispute it.

Tracks 2,3,4 and 5/2 have information and details I've never heard before on 1st press/EG/modern reissues on vinyl. First listen only on B system. Further listen on main system to follow.

i really dont know what y'all complaining about. check any official of any of these tracks: all of these are noisy, full of tape hiss and distortion, all of which was also noticed by the audience and critics at the time of release. this says 'newly cut', not remastered. it plays like its supposed to. my copy is virtually devoid of any clicks or pops, which im super impressed with. completely worth the price.

My vinyl is released in 1975 in the U.S.
I don’t see that as an option. Anybody know the reason. And it’s not a reissue, it’s an original vinyl from 1975
