I first heard of IAM in ’94 thanks to a BBC2 documentary, probably Arena, which had a featurette on French Hip Hop. Le Danse De Mia (the remix from Ombre Est Lumiere Volume 1) was witty. I liked it. Thus began my love affair with French Hip Hop.
I am fortunate enough to have a girlfriend with a sister who lives in and she generously agreed to bring back records (and Hip Hop magazines) when she paid her annual visits. Years later I discovered Fnac.com, which then fed my habit and the rest, as they say, is history.
L'Ecole Du Micro D'Argent remains one of the greatest Hip Hop LPs ever made. A triple vinyl epic with the beats and rhymes to match anything produced today. Plus the LP artwork is aces! I define a classic LP, as one that, obviously, you will listen to again and again, but upon each fresh listen your favourite tracks will differ from your last listen’s favourite tracks. However the title track is a regular favourite and is still one of the best openers to any LP. It lays down the gauntlet and IAM don’t disappoint.
Jean-Louis Murat, are the only French Artists whose music I religiously buy. I don’t speak French. So, no. I have no idea what they’re talking about either.

Simply one of the best's album of French hip-hop (of all time). Amazing lyrics, amazing flows and revolutionary sounds (for 1997).
