I'm always surprised when I see this album rank low on Ramones "best of" lists. For me it's a great record top to bottom. I like the production and the songwriting a lot. It's like a better produced Subterranean Jungle (which is my favorite overall). The addition of Richie Ramone helped them too. Best drummer, imo. And a spikey haired DeeDee was a nice visual change too.

Too Tough To Die is without a doubt the most underrated Ramones album ever. This album has everything that makes the Ramones...well...RAMONES! Production value is pretty tight, rich and enjoyable, thanks to the wonderful studio producers Ed Stasium and Tommy Ramone. Lyrically this album goes beyond what the Ramones had written before, just as Chasing The Night and Danger Of Love is a new yet interesting take of professional song writing. Yet, the punk songs are still there, and oh boy are they punk as fuck. Tracks like Mama's Boy, Wart Hog, Danger Zone and Human Kind are fun and enjoyable little Ramones songs.
Musically, this is the Ramones most diverse album in sound. People often say this album is the Ramones cross between Hardcore Punk, which is right of course! But to me, I can see more than just hardcore punk. If you listen to it closely, you can sense a bit of New Wave (Chasing the Night, Howling At The Moon) and Post Punk (Planet Earth 1988 and Danger Of Love). This album is a mix of everything that made punk so great in the late 70s-mid 80s.
This album has it all, and I would recommend it to anyone that has a general love or nostalgia for punk music.
