Differences I've noticed when comparing the US CD and UK CD
- US has a bit more compression, most noticable on dynamic tracks like "Forever". Overall dB is about the same though.
- US has a brighter EQ on most tracks. "Are We Here?" sounds about the same, and "Forever" actually sound slightly duller.
- Slightly more frequency response on UK (inaudible).
- US has more tape hiss in spots (ie "Philosopher By Numbers"). Might be the compression and EQ though.
- Insignificant differences in fading between tracks. Only remotely noticeable one is US adding a small gap between "Quality Seconds" and "Are We Here?"
- US has some slightly incorrect track divisions. Overall CD length is identical though.
Only really noticeable thing I think is the EQ and compression. Otherwise it's musically identical. -
Edited 15 years agoAn overlooked diamond by P & P Hartnoll that sticks its head into ambient, electro, and trip hop. There's a gabber-esque question mark and a linear techno beat in there as well. Sad but true eccentuates an early Goldfrapp's voice and the breakbeat is "audiogenic" (unforgettable). Philosophy by numbers I think predates Drexciya, Anthony Rother, and all the electro revival (94!). The diversity may have been what caused the lack of sales, but the first three tracks work so well that the others seem like b-sides.
