Edited 3 years agoMarch 2022, Just completed a 3 way comparo between an original 1982 pressing (no MJ co producer credit), a 2019 US pressing, and this 1982 Japanese reissue. The original US 1982 is my favorite, followed by an excellent and super close Japanese reissue 1982. Both of these 1982's offer super sound quality and would satisfy everybody. Especially on Beat It and Billie Jean, you can notice that the 2019 is more set back, less details, less energy. Comparatively the 2019 reissue sounds a little withdrawn, lacking detail and less spacious and doesn't jump out at you the way the 1982's did. The original 1982 US gets my vote for having a little bit more presence, upper end delicacy and detail that are slightly missing in the Japanese press. Japanese press gives off a tiny bit more bass energy, but not enough to compensate for the superior US 1982. There are no 'bad' pressings here, just splitting hairs for one of the all time greatest albums on the planet!!
