Just put this on...I have similar experience as many. The wax is a flat slab, virtually no surface, nice separation / stage / width, and it sounds damn good (it begs you to crank it up) on my modest system...

    (Fluance RT-82 w/Acrylic Platter, ATN-XP cart/5 stylus. Nobsound T3 Phono Amp, Aiyima A07 Pro, Kicker KB6B, & 2x Polk PSW10 Subs...Simple Low Cost Setup)...Happy Listening

OK, having seen the reviews listed here, I was pretty concerned when I ordered this album. I was more concerned when my LP arrived from Amazon with splits on all three sealed sides of the printed insert. I actually had to wash the LP prior to my initial playtest as it was covered with detritus, which I normally do not do as it sometimes voids the returnability (e.g Sound of Vinyl). All that being said, before the first track had finished I grabbed my cousin from the office next to mine to come listen to it as I was so pleased by the sound quality. The warmth and depth throughout the rest of the album did not dissapoint and exceeded my expectations and subsequent relistening of the CD. Note: I actually once made my millenial assistant sit in the sweet spot in my office and listen to the entirety of "Three Days" of Ritual, when she offhandedly mentiuoned she had no idea what Alt Rock was and who Jane's were. In sum, this is actually a d@mn good pressin IMHO, though I strongly concur that the fact that "Pigs In Zen" was left off this cut (as well as every other cut) is tragic. I subsequently went down the rabbit hole here on Discogs and realized that the rendition from the CD and Casette of "Nothing's Shocking" has NEVER appeared on vinyl, which is truly a travesty. I immediately took to X (formerly Twitter) and requested ( JanesAddiction & @hi_mber96937) put is out as a single for RSD, and would ask for others to do the same.

Okay, there are many valid complaints here, even though they frequently contradict one another. 😂 Normally, my amp is set pretty close to 12:00. Once I got to “Ted, Just it It,” I turned it up to about 2:00 and almost every problem was solved. The bass is right there, front and center. The guitars are crunchy and a little shrill, but that’s the sound of the record. 🤷‍♂️ I don’t think better mastering is going to fix that, but a remix might. Maybe we just all have to remind ourselves what we’re listening to. It’s not Aja and was never intended to possess sparkling clarity. But man, the record still rocks after 35 years. What a unique force this band was.

3 stars for leaving Pigs In Zen off. On the High vs. Low sound opinions here please this album ALWAYS sounded tinny and high, with deeper more rhythmic tones popping out at different moments. It never was a bass and drum heavy record. To get the punch you may be wanting out of it, either manipulate your sound system or wait for a remaster. Listen to “Ted, Just it It”. This pressing is good, and it definitely is a hot press made to go loud AF.

Sorry to hear others’ copies don’t sound great. I listened for things to pick out of my pressing that sounded off, but I really can’t complain. Hits hard and clear on my system. A bit quiet but that can be fixed with the volume knob.

Got my copy (Variant 4) from Barnes & Noble today and it sounds great. No surface noise. It’s a little bright but not that bad where I would say it’s a bad product.

How do you leave Pig in Zen off.

I love how half the reviews say it’s all treble and the other half say it’s lacking highs. Between the two I can guess maybe it just doesn’t sound good. (Honestly though, that’s probably 90% the fault of the production; it always sounded like it was mastered in a tin can.)
