This is a solid pressing. It's nice and quiet with decent separation, but not as punchy as my repress of Heaven Up Here. Probably due to the source rather than the pressing.

Edited 3 years agoSo, I've had a copy of this European pressing from '82 - https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/release/3978289-Echo-And-The-Bunnymen-Crocodiles - for many, many years, and it has a very thin, treble-y, and kind of gritty/scrappy sound. By comparison, this new reissue/remaster sounds much fuller, with more robust bass and mids, somewhat tamed highs, and a generally smoother and clearer sound. It was also cut a bit louder than the older pressing, which in my experience is not so common with newer remastered reissues of these old records. I'll need to give this another listen, but my first impression is that this actually sounds *better* than my older copy.
The cover art replication also looks pretty good compared to my old copy. Not perfect, but much better than some Bunnymen vinyl reissues from several years ago which I recall looked comparatively darkened and fuzzy. -
I was worried about the mixed reviews of these remasters and so decided to take the plunge on this one first, just to see. I love it - far more oomf and detail than the original, with a lovely balance throughout. I will buy the other three right away. I have a Clearaudio turntable & stylus playing through a Cyrus amp and Monitor Audio speakers.

Flat, quiet, clear, dynamic sound - what's not to love here. I think my original Sire is slightly punchier, but heavily recommend this repress. If you find one, don't hesitate and grab it.

I picked up Crocodiles because this is the only 1 of the 4 I don't have an original of but it's so damn good I think I am going to pick up the other 3 reissues! This sounds fantastic on my setup. It certainly does not sound thin. Maybe a little bright but that's how it is intended to sound. The bass and drums are perfectly refined and punchy.
