This has all of the audio quality I would expect from the dead show tapes I would trade in high school and college. It's a shame because the content is pretty great.
-
The vinyl and packaging are fine. But the mix definitely leaves something to be desired. Love this compilation album and was hoping for a better remaster. Will keep it, but was hoping for more.
-
Quite happy with this release. The vinyl is flat and quiet. I was a bit concerned when I saw the GZ pressing that the albums would be dish warped, but mine are very flat.
-
The performances are pretty great, but I agree the recording itself isn't top notch. If I were to give the "Old & In The Way" Boarding House recording an A grade for sound quality, I'd give this one a B-. There's a lot of the room/air in the recording which diminishes some of individual instrument clarity. Overall though, it's pretty immersive and you definitely get a feel for the rooms they were playing in. I don't have any complaints with the packaging. The gatefold was a nice surprise and the records were in poly lined sleeves. Win win.
-
I would agree that this sounds like an audience sourced recording. The performance gets 5 stars from me, the sonics-I struggle to give 4 stars. By my rating system the sound quality of this is a 3 star mix. If not for a very lively and energetic performance I wouldn’t keep this set.

Excellent release from Garcia estate, sound is phenomenal. Mastering, mix, and packaging all great quality
-
Great performance and the vinyl plays very well. The recording sounds like a very good audience tape, but I’m not sure. Just sounds a bit roomier than most board tapes. This is just an observation, not a complaint.
-
Great sound quality but the cover isn’t very unique but I guess Jerry was trying to escape that psychedelic persona being the lead singer of the dead and all. So I suppose the cover goes perfectly with how Jerry was around this time
-
Disc two is mildly dished, disc one is perfectly flat. Pressing is quiet, thankfully they used poly inner sleeves to preserve this. Sound quality is great to me, especially knowing it came from GZ. Glad this is on vinyl to go with Almost Acoustic from a few years back!
