Edited 2 months agoSo this is a very clean sounding pressing , sounds more like a CD then Vinyl . I also have a copy of https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/release/2023361-Charles-Mingus-Better-Git-It-In-Your-Soul - This is a repressing from the 1970's that includes Ah Um and Mingus Dynasty . It sounds warmer then this 2009 Jazz Wax , but my copy has surface noise and pops . This is the dilemma you will have , pay $15.00 for the 2009 or maybe $50 - $ 100 for an original clean 1970's repress .Its a great album , so if even if you do not have the best copy its a enjoyable experience .

If you’re getting into jazz and money is tight, these reissues aren’t that bad. Just these European labels are working within a grey market and they don’t pay licensing fees, hence they’ve stolen the music. As far as sound quality, if you’re use to CD’s or love a clean almost artificial sound that digital provides, you’ll love it. The vinyl itself is flat and silent. I do have some distortion/flutter in the horns on Goodbye Pork Pie Hat. As far as comparing to an OG pressing or a reissue like the AP, it doesn’t compare. Albums cut from analog tape have a warmth and roundness that digital hasn’t been able to recreate yet. That doesn’t mean this reissue sounds bad, it just sounds different. Some people like digital sounding music because of the cleanness it provides. I personally prefer analog, as it’s warmer and more open. I would suggest looking into the Music On Vinyl repress of this album. It’s one of the few releases they’ve cut from tape and it sounds great. Plus they pay licensing fees, so these artist estates get paid for the reproduction of this incredible music.

Like others have said, the sound on this is quite good and I can't imagine the AP 33 rpm being close to double (almost triple) better as the price would suggest. Only problem is that it is totally a bowl...to the point in fact that it starts playing on side B without the needle even being dropped because the edge is so high. This seems to be a common issue now and doesn't seem to affect sound so for the ridiculously low price, I can't complain too much.

This reissue sound very very good. I don’t know how the original pressings sound but for the price it’s a good bought.

This is my third Jazz Wax release and I have never had a bad pressing yet. This release is quiet and clean sounding. Pressing is centered and flat. Worth picking up.

Agreed with other commenters. Sounds great for the non-picky-- and especially for the price!!
Should note these are the 1979 "full-length" tracks according to the center label, which means the album pushes to 57 minutes. Doesn't sound compressed, but it's something to note. -
My copy plays surprisingly well and sounds surprisingly good. For the price this album is selling for at retail, I’d call this one a massive bargain. For many people, this copy will do you just fine. It sounds great.

Got this brand new from Barnes and Noble for $8, incredible deal. Pretty good pressing for the ridiculously low price to, it would be stupid not to pick it up.

I felt like I was doing the Pepsi challenge with this record. I know Wax time is one of those “gray area” labels with questionable sources and subpar sound quality but this one is really nice. If blindfolded and told it was from Analog Production I probably couldn’t tell you the difference.

This copy sounds… fine. It’s a super cheap copy that punches over its weight. I’ll upgrade someday but for now this is entirely listenable.
