By 1975, After "Stax Records" closed down, "Isaac Hayes" took a BRAVE chance and started his own Record Label in, "Hot Buttered Soul" ("HBS")....With that, "Ike" (along with the "Isaac Hayes Movement"), Released 2 GEMS in the form of "Chocolate Chip" and "Disco Connection"....Those albums were not the super success that "Isaac" was USED TO, but they were STILL SUCCESSFUL!!!!!

With that, "Ike" kept it going with the Release of "Groove-A-Thon"....

With the "Disco Movement" STILL in SUPER BLOOM, "Ike" (just like MOST Artists of that time), could not help but to be DRAWN into it....So he continued to head on down to the "Disco Tech", along with his "Isaac Hayes Movement" and this time bringing along "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited" ("Pat and Diane Lewis", "Rose Williams" and "Barbara McCoy")....

Starting with the "Title Track", this is UNAPOLOGETICLY "Disco"!!!! This "Disco" Groove also has that Movie Theater feel to it...It also sounds like the "Disco" sounds that you heard on the Cop and Detective Shows that were POPULAR in the '70's, like "Kojak", "The Rockford Files" and "Starky & Hutch"....It is also in a 9 minute OPUS, so you had PLENTY of ROOM for "Ike" and "The Movement" to WORK WITH!!!!! At first when I got this album, I thought it was kind of CHEESY!!!! But over the years, the Musicianship caught AHOLD of me, so now it's an Ultimate Crown Jewel (especially during the BREAK DOWNS toward the end!!!).....

"Your Loving Is Much Too Strong" has a VERY STRONG Slow Melody....It continues to SOLIDIFY "Isaac" as a "Slow Jam Master"....Again, we have that Cheating thing goin on, but he wasn't the only Artist doing it.....

Before I bought the album on Vinyl, I first heard "Rock Me Easy Baby" from my "Isaac Hayes, Can You Dig It?" CD Anthology....Again, even though a Sultry track, it keeps me with the Movie Theater feeling...I have to it that I have to listen to this one again, even though this seems to be the MOST POPULAR t on this album....

"We've Got A Whole Lot Of Love" is again UNAPOLOGETICLY "Disco".....It's ok, but at times it sounds kind of uneven to me....Even though they sound a little lost in the Groove, "Ike" and "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited" STILL sounds GREAT Vocally!!!!!

"Wish You Were Here (You Ought To Be Here)" sounds VERY INTRIGING Musically....I personally don't EVER hearing "Ike" starting an album in subtle Keyboard form like he did here (Yes Piano, but not Keyboards)...Then going into the Moody Crown Jewel Melody, "Ike" gives one of his FINEST Vocal performances EVER!!!!! (even though that's SAYING A LOT!!!!) And of course, having "Hot Buttered Soul Unlimited" capping off the ending, PRICELESS!!!!!

"Make A Little Love To Me" puts this album on a Crown Jewel ending!!!! The Melody almost sounds like "Ike" was getting a little help from "Barry White" (I did say ALMOST)....I know they were close "Brothers" though, so I am sure "Ike" was INSPIRED by "Barry" a little...The ending is ALSO FIRE, with the BREAK DOWN and DREAMY Guitar....This was also sampled a TON of times!!!! The Artist to benefit the MOST from it, was "Faith Evans" with the NOW Classic t, "I Love You", from her "Faithfully" album in 2001....

    Well, I will say this....

I don't think this album faired well that much...I would like to think that it would have, but by this time People were LOST in the SAUSE of Artists like "The Jacksons" (no longer "Jackson 5") and "The Bee Gees"...Then on top of that, "Abba" KILLED it with "Dancing Queen", and "The Trammps" STREAMROLLED in with "Disco Inferno"!!!!! (Hey, "Burn, Baby, Burn"!!!!)

With that, it just seemed like "Isaac Hayes" brand of Music was being left behind...And on top of that, he was STRUGGLING to keep his Record Label, "HBS", afloat....But, I will say this, "Isaac Hayes" was a DETERMINED Man, and he would continue to FIGHT ON!!!!

As for "Groove-A-Thon", even though almost originally SNUBBED, over the years, it has become a VERY TREASURED Record in the "Isaac Hayes Saga".....
