Edited 3 months agoThis pressing is lively and energetic compared to others. This is much more exciting than the MoFi pressing, for example. Guitars have more edge, and the highs are more aggressive on this one, but the MoFi is smoother, warmer, refined, and richer. This SRC press however is more fun to listen to.

Edited 3 months agoGeorge Marino at Sterling (RIP) set the bar when originaly mastered for how this album will always be measured against. The 1979 original in my opinion leaves no room for anyone else and has not been "bested" yet. The soundstage, the separation of instrumentation, the balance across the EQ spectrum and the vocal intonations are unmatched with any of the other "reissues" that have come since.
If you can find this copy in decent shape, give it a few good cleanings and then sit back and enjoy!
you will not be disappointed.
Well done George! -
Edited 10 months agoI’ll echo everyone else. Doesn’t have the hits of the self-titled but is crisp, clear, punchy….awesome. They don’t make them like this anymore. This is what records should sound like.

I purchased this album shortly after its 1979 release. It appears to be this pressing although it's what I'm guessing is a fairly rare copy. It is correctly the Candy-O side one pressing, but the label is the side one label from the The Cars - The Cars also from Specialty Pressing!

I bought this album for the front cover art. This version has no text on the cover, just the Vargas art. I framed it and is now hanging on my wall. What I did not count on was the fact that this pressing sounds better than every other version I have. Yes, it is better than either of the Mobile Fidelity offerings - 180g vinyl or 24k Gold CD. I record everything to 24 bit 192k files so I can do A B (and C) comparisons back to back.
I have had a few Specialty Record Pressings from different artists, and SRC pressings are hard to beat.
This Candy-O pressing also has the initials RTB engraved in the runout. Roy Thomas Baker must have mastered this himself, maybe that's why it sounds so good. -

Explosive sounding album, pressed *very* loud! Nice and crisp, with a great level of detail. I wish more new releases onto vinyl had this kind of quality.
