Edited one year agoGiven the length of this compilation - Side 2 alone tops out at nearly 29 minutes (!) - it sounds way better than it has a right to. Certainly better than the mastering in the huge box set, which was so flat and quiet. Fair play to whoever did the cutting on this original.
Punchy and with a surprising amount of bottom end for such a long LP. Just goes to show what can be achieved when squeezing in way more than you really should onto a single vinyl. True, the final songs on each side sound a little bit ropey but not overly horrendous. (And my copy was picked up second hand at a record fair so it could be a bit of groove wear.) If you've only heard this on disappointing re-issues I highly recommend seeking out an original of this essential album.
