Still will appeal primarily to fans, though there are some good tracks. For the most part, many of the songs will sound familiar to those who know earlier, pre-JD releases, most notably Warsaw.
My favorite just happens to be the first song, Exercise One. It's a brutally simple song with a deceptively intricate bass line. The beginning fades in with some of the most haunting sounds I've ever heard. Specifically, they're backwards guitar with a healthy dose of delay.
However, this brings us to my primary complaint: the way Hannett mixed the drums, namely the snare. It's my guess that he was going for a hand clapping effect. Whatever he had in mind it ruins the whole studio portion of the album.
The live tracks are a waste of time, and the first time I heard Sister Ray I thought the record had ended and something else had started. Anyway, that's my take on Still… -
