It could be the bottle of Pinot that helped this on its way, but I have nothing but positive things to say about this pressing. Worth taking a punt on

Sound/mastering is good. Smooth, clear and dynamic. No distortion or scratches.
Bit of low frequency “rumble” audible between tracks. 18€ in NL, new. -
Edited one year agoBrought off Amazon for the princely sum of £15 and I think it sounds like a great pressing. Barely any noise, detailed and not muffled as some suggested.
Currently playing on a 1981 Technics SL1510mk2n with an Ortofon 2M Blue. But will also try on a modern Technics SL1200GR with an Audio Technica VM740ML which is more refined than the 2M Blue. -
Not brilliant in any way. Sure it doesnt hurt the ears and sibilance is none existent even with basic needles but rolled off highs and murky opaque mastering throughout are two different things and this is the latter. Its like the album was recorded from the next room whith only the door partly open and it suffers for it. Only the vocals have any clarity to them. Then theres the GZ Media vinyl and pressing quality which as usual leaves alot to be desired. It could and should be ALOT better than this!

Edited one year agoIt's okay. Not particularly blown away like CBAT, Aja, and Gaucho, but not disappointed like Countdown. Sort of boomy and not that open or anything to write home about overall, and I don't know about anyone else, but Monkey In Your Soul suffers from inner groove distortion and noise towards the end, especially with the guitar (am using an AT-VM95ML, regularly make sure it's aligned and set). Don't have an original to compare yet, but likely will soon.
Update: Got an original pressing, and it's way better. Vocals are clearer, instruments are more balanced, doesn't distort during Monkey In Your Soul. -
I am not impressed by the sound of this remaster and pressing. The original master is not top notch but this new one is a tad worse.

Edited one year agoI just listened to my original 1974 US pressing and compared them back and forth. They sound identical. I even got a second opinion and they agreed. Just get this pressing and save a lot of money. The only difference is on Side B where the final two tracks seem to have a little more air and life on the 1974 but the difference isn't that great between the two.

Better than my 70s copy. Flat and quiet, no blemishes to speak of. This remaster didn't blow me away like a couple recent Dan reissues. But the mix is good, and it's good on my other copy.
I definitely noticed some improved clarity and felt like the horns and rhythm section stand out in a pleasing way. Feels like a slightly quiet record to my ears. I understand a lot of the underwhelmed responses here from more experienced listeners. Sounds like there may have been some duds in this batch. However, it is an improvement over my copy through my humble rig (Pro-Ject Debut Carbon, Art DJPRE, 2 active Wharfdale Diamonds).
My expectations were met and it will be the copy I spin from now on. Pretzel Logic sees action several times a week. -
The music is great but the pressing is just awful. Looks like there’s a blanket covering the loudspeakers. Just terrible. Can’t imagine why the band would allow this release.
