Edited 2 months agoBought it when it was released, since it's one of my all-time favourite Tom Waits' records, wet-cleaned & listened to it. Completely disappointed, found it horrible and unlistenable…
BUT one year and half later, thoroughly ed it on my new spincare machine… and surprise ! It actually sounds pretty good ! Still way too quiet but at least it doesn't have a sh*tshow of noises and crackles as before, making it unlistenable. Now it's fine enough. -

Honestly think I prefer my bootleg copy to this new pressing. It too has a couple of pops/clicks, but not quite as many, and it’s much louder.

Volume is low, but the sound is great. Remaster brings out a ton of stuff I guarantee you never heard. My copy was flat and beautiful right out of the lyric sleeve. The artwork also--huge, clear, and righteous. I never made out what was on the back before.
Like the Waits/Brennan remaster of Real Gone, I think the sound is wended toward sounding like Swordfishtrombones, which is a great sound. Some people thinks it ruins a classic, but as long as there is no added instrumentation I welcome new mastering choices. -
Extremely low volume on this. Never had an LP that I’ve had to turn the volume up so high on, which then obviously accentuates the pops alarmingly.

Mine is not bad. Sure it's not the quietest wax I've had and apart from that weird oily sheen the record is flat and -almost- crackle free. Comes through my system at a correct volume. Not audiophile, but very acceptable and a worthy replacement to the played-to-shreds original I have. Came with a small "Made in Czech Republic" sticker... that GZ?

Edited one year agoYep, mine is quiet, crackles heaps and even has one small lump on it that makes a loud crack for a minute on side B.

Im in on the rant, this sucks they killed the bass and its not GZ`s fault, nice pressing it is.
2 lp with bass please(cd has good bass). These short songs should be easy to put on four sides.
