Love Me Do is very good - but it's noticeably quieter than the first track - why? I'm not a big fan of the Now and Then production - if they'd recorded the vocals back in the Anthology Days, I'd probably think differently, but as it stands, sounds very anachronistic. That being said, I think the song's good and some people have done a much better job on YouTube, giving it various production flavours.

Pretty much what everyone says here. It is an overall cheap release for such a great song. Almost seems like an afterthought in the quality department. Why Paul, Ringo, Harrison, and Lennon estates did not say stop the presses and do this right I'll never know.
Anyway I am glad I got this CD but I do not have the same feeling I had when I bought my first Beatles 45 singles back in the early 1970s. Or those CDs in 1987. Those were some special times. This recent release did not have the same feeling. The song and the video brings me to tears but the overall release was two bit. -
Edited one year agoFirstly the all important matter of how good the song is. In my opinion this song is stunning. I think better than the other 2 singles from the Anthology releases. Modern technology has really helped unlock the power of John's vocal, very raw and intimate.
As for presentation, here goes. I think the artwork is truly woeful, it looks so unprofessional. I'm sure the designer was payed a royal sum for deg this. Totally inadequate!
The CD is housed in a flimsy card sleeve and looks a tad cheap, and because I dislike the cover it probably looks worse than it possibly is.
Now And Then is so much louder on the disc than Love Me Do. That doesn't seem right. Surely the sound of both songs should be of similar loudness?
I like the new mix of Love Me Do, really good job. If this in uncompressed compared to the version on the recent Red album, then that is a lovely bonus.
If Now And Then has been given the heavily compressed treatment then that is a big disappointment.
Why is the quality and presentation of music to the listener always compromised in some way or another?
We're talking about The Beatles, the greatest band on earth with a legacy of music that will last for eternity.
It needs to be cherished and handled with the up most care and detail. Is that too much to ask?
Finally, the CD didn't come with the insert that the vinyl did. Such a shame that it didn't.
I love this single, deservedly reaching #1. Just a shame it's not the perfect release fitting for a final single from the Greatest band on planet earth! -
Sound quality on NAT is horrible. Heavily compressed and more so than Oasis!!! The vinyl is only a touch better. LMD is fine.
