Edited 5 months agoThough i haven't compared the two, but since the recording dates and venue match, i believe this to be the same performance that has been issued in the past as It is in the Brewing Luminous. Even Cecil Taylor couldn't be in two different places at the same time, right? Maybe someone else can shed a light on this... ?
That someone else turns out to be me! During a residency at Fat Tuesday from 8 - 10 February 1980 (some sources say 5 - 9 February 1980), 4 sets were recorded, this being the third. How do i know? Well, it says so on the back! Reading is such a wonderful skill!
In relation to It is in the Brewing Luminous, though it has the same combination of instruments, this is definitely not as dense and the individual players are more easily discerned. The whole thing sounds a lot clearer. Mastering has undoubtedly something to do with this, but it has to be said that both performances from this residency sound a bit flat. Acoustics of the venue maybe? Who can say?
