Edited one year agoThis box set is every bit as essential as the Beatles in Mono CD set to me. Gorgeously presented album sleeves and great sound quality. There are some complaints of the sleeves being too saturated and a couple singles being vinyl rips (Both are alternate mixes of songs elsewhere in the set so maybe they were missing those tapes?) but I still find this set incredible. The fact that extra special care was taken to make these sound as close to the original tapes as possible is exactly what I look for in CDs. Too often are CDs too compressed and EQ'd to death, I love the sound on these discs! -
Edited 2 years agoI bought this box set in 2013 online. The product description in the webshop, not mentioned on the release, gave the following information: “Each album has been taken back to its original form. Audio 2012 flat transfers from the original analogue master tapes (not the 1999 remasters) ensuring the audio sounds truer to its original LP sound”
Personally I prefer the 1999 remasters from renowned mastering engineer Bob Ludwig but the 2012 flat transfers are sounding also very good. Compared to each other both remaster versions give a different listening experience of these classic albums.

Flat digital transfers from the original master tapes which sound absolutely fantastic. I wish every compact disc would sound like these !
I still would like to know who did this fantastic mastering^
I've hears some rumours that it was Bob Ludwig (because he works with the band since many years when it comes to mastering; although his credited re-masters from 1999 of the Roxy Music catalogue are brickwalled to death and way too loud and compressed..)
Anyway a fantastic sounding cd box set of Roxy Music's studio albums.
By the way, I have their first 2 albums on UK first pressings and the cd versions in this box sound equally as good ( if not even better at parts..) -
For the packaging alone this is one of the best 'box-sets' ever !
There may be some complaints about the credits or the 'sound transfer' but I still love it.
Plus all the extras are on separate discs on not tacked on the end of regular albums.
(It bothered some Bowie Fans, not me !)
Plus they have repro inner sleeves which means you can just about get to the CD without scratching the hell out of it.
They all have gatefold covers too which are even more tactile than the Massive Attack Singles set with the 'heat-sensitive' cover.
AND it wasn't all that expensive either.
Shame there's no Lenor Quiff equivalent ? -
This is an amazing set. Glad I picked it up a while ago for $50 as it seems like it's becoming harder to track down,. The heavy stock replica sleeves and solid box are a nice touch to go along with amazing sounding CDs that really come to life on my system. This set is so good and truly sounds better than any of the original vinyl pressings I own. I am not sure how good the vinyl box is in companion, but to me, this box set is neatly definitive for all of the Roxy Music albums.

Edited 7 years agoYep, it's all here! All the studio albums in heavy card gatefold replica sleeves. I can't say if the artwork itself replicates that of the original albums to the last illegible bit of text, but they do look good and feel durable. The outer box is really heavyweight cardstock. As for the sound quality anyone with an audiophile setup will be able to notice a clear difference between sq in the earier albums here and (say) the HDCD remasters. The sq here is the 'honest' original sound without any artifice, boost, bricking or tinkering. To my ears this current set provides the best sq compromise by far. Thoroughly recommended even if you have all the albums already, just for the original 'sound'.

This boxset is seriously good. I urge everyone that is doubting over buying this: just buy it! For a price of only £50 on Amazon, this is a steal. Every studio album is presented here in a very nice way, all gatefold sleeves. A 2-disc compilation is added containing all B-sides, alternative mixes and remixes. The only negative thing you could say is there are no booklets with detailed information. But don't let that hold you back.
On the sound quality: these are all flat transfers of the original master tapes which means very good sound quality. These discs are in no way compressed, brickwalled or whatever. So you can really crank the volume up without it hurting or becoming unpleasant to your ears. They all have very nice dynamics and sound very good to my ears. How a cd really should sound.
