Great album all-around. The drums are well-balanced (the cymbals don't sound like shattered glass, either!), the bass's rattling cuts through the mix cleanly, and the two guitars serve as a fantastic tool for ambience and layering on top of the bass. This album sounds raw, yet well-produced at the same time. It isn't compressed to high hell like you'll find with other tracks from similar artists. Ross Robinson captured a bit of magic with Korn's self-titled.

I have a dark red / black version. Vinyl looks like version below and I have it listed as that release, however the copy I have is not numbered. The red is dark but lighter when held up to the light. It is a double LP and everything seems to match is there any other red versions out there, anyone else with a red splatter version that does not have a numbered sleeve?

Early Korn stuff is sincere, emotional and little bit of crazy. Debut album is direct evidence of this. Melodic and tough "Blind" is the most famous thing but there are other great things. The "Clown" song is interesting because there is specific Jonathan's rapping after the second chorus. My best song is "Ball Tongue". It's crazy and his vocal... It's from the heart.
The "Faget" song is special. Unusual structure, weird chorus and this constant anger going through the lyrics. -
I actually had a vision of the afterlife to the song Shoots and Ladders one day when I was 12 or 13. A portal opened up above the doorway to my room and I was absorbed in the vision, unable to move. Never had anything happen like it since. I'm half Scottish so I think the pipes triggered something. As soon as the guitars came in I snapped out. It was a very full on minute in my life.

Edited 18 years agoThis was the beginning album that got Korn on the right track. Every song is excellent and it's what started the Nu-Metal genre. There isn't a dull moment during the entire cd. If you want to know what Korn is all about then pick up this album before you listen to the new stuff. It's perfect.
