Notes

Original unreleased 7" single housed in A&M record company paper sleeve.

25,000 copies were pressed but withdrawn from sale following a backlash to the lyrics. A&M dropped their contract with the band and all copies were destroyed. However, several copies remained in circulation, one of which sold at auction in 2024 for $30,000.

Genuine originals have the serrated anti-slip necklace and 7284 written twice on the B-Side runout, one above the other.

℗ 1977 A&M Records Ltd.

I love seeing the "Low" price, implying that SOMEBODY in human history got this for 21 bucks.

One was just sold by Wessex Auction Rooms for just under £25,000. The BBC published a report today on the sale.

Welp, today’s the day - Queen Elizabeth II, the subject of this song and subsequently one of the rarest records ever, has ed away at the age of 96.

Wonder if today’s news sees another copy of the A&M withdrawn release pop up for sale or even sells, setting a new price record.

Actually 25 copies of the 1000s pressed by A&M were “salvaged”. There are 1993 bootlegs. Other than that the 88 who state they have an original simply DO NOT

A buyer paid £15,652* for a MINT original, one of the 9 that exist, together with A&M correspondence and proof of provenance, at Wessex Auctions - 1 November 2019 (* including buyers ). I think this is the most ever paid for this. Was on BBC.

My recollection is, there were only a handful of copies for many years but when A&M closed down (I've just looked the label up on Wikipedia and it ceased operations in 1999) more copies - perhaps 10 - were located and some of the staff being laid off were given one copy each. A friend of mine, a dealer and an expert who had always wanted a copy, was put in touch by a reliable and paid £1,000. That seemed to be the going rate at the time - most of these copies were sold immediately. It didn't seem like such a good investment at the time, but clearly it was.
