Notes
Matte cover with printed inner sleeve with lyrics
The Kinks Present Schoolboys In Disgrace.
The following is printed on the cover backside:
Once upon a time there was a naughty little schoolboy. He and his gang were always playing tricks on the teachers and bullying other children in the school. One day he got himself into very serious trouble with a naughty schoolgirl and he was sent to the Heaster who decided to disgrace the naughty boy and his gang in front of the whole school.
After this punishment the boy turned into a hard and bitter character. Perhaps it was not the punishment that changed him but the fact that he realised people in authority would always be there to kick him down and the Establishment would always put him in his place. He knew that he could not change the past but he vowed that in future he would always get what he wanted. The naughty little boy grew up....into Mr. Flash.
"Printed in U.S.A." on back cover and also on the insert, which differs from release The Kinks - The Kinks Present Schoolboys In Disgrace
Recorded at Konk Studios, London, during school holidays.

What a brilliant, excellently recorded, criminally underappreciated title.
The Kinks have made so many great records but I think this is as good as any of them. It's high but just praise. Everyone else notice the cheeky dirty mag tucked into Dave's satchel in the rear cover photo? He was kicked out of school at 15 when he was caught having sex with his girlfriend in Hampstead Heath. Several great songs to choose from, but Heaster, a kind of reply to this incident, is my favorite. Guess the Davies boys had the last laugh.
My US/Indianapolis copy sounds great. It's the best $5 I've ever spent. Hard to believe the UK first could sound much better, but I'm gonna get a copy soon just to be sure.
God Save the Kinks. -
The Kinks wrapped up their RCA contract with SCHOOLBOYS IN DISGRACE, and while it's still a concept album of sorts, there's more of a common theme than a plot, so the songs don't take second fiddle to the concept this time around. Ray allows Dave to play actual lead guitar solos, the band gets to rock out again, and it's their best record since MUSWELL HILLBILLIES, highlighted by "Schooldays", "I'm In Disgrace", "The Hard Way" and "No More Looking Back". This 1975 pressing is probably the best sounding of any of their RCA albums, with a surprisingly polished and smooth production, plenty of low end, a really nice drum sound, and a huge, detailed soundstage. My copy plays nice and clean, with faint surface noise at times.

I heard this record years ago when someone left an 8track of this behind in a used vehicle my grandpa bought years ago. I thought it was great all these years ago ….I just recently acquired this on vinyl to see if my memory serves me. It seems to me that the classic rock stations at the time ignored this one or it just didn’t cross my ears. This is a underrated rock masterpiece. Very well recorded and the Robert Ludwig (RL) mastering on this fantastic! Also.. this record sounds killer through a quadraphonic decoder!

That's the kind of Rock 'N' Roll album that keeps any Music Lovers to pursue the Quest for Great ROCK Music.
The Kinks get back to basic with Dave Davies on the forefront. Another great portrait of the English society by Ray and superb lyrics writing which help again to consider him as a real poet. Guitar oriented with enough gems from Ray Davies to rate it 5/5 even 30 years later. A Must. JX
