Liner Notes:
the thought of putting a live album together was an idea that was born backstage after one of our shows. it seemed at first a throwaway idea, but we thought we'd see how it would sound. we put a request out to see if anyone had any live recordings, after listening back to old tapes, mini-discs and cd's that were so kindly sent to us, we decided that we'd put them together and see how they'd sound. this album is the result.
the majority of the tracks are unreleased, some were only ever played once
'umber' and 'culzean', from our very first show, and 'old spitalfields' is taken from a show in june 2001

Edited 13 years agoAs already said, the audio quality of some tracks is rather bad - overall it sounds a bit like a Rothko tribute album. But this disc contains a couple of essential tunes you can't get elsewhere. Among the more interesting stuff here are the last two tracks: "Old spitalfields" shows the Rothko triple bass interplay in full glory, while "End" closes the disc on an extremely dark, disturbing note. Also worth mentioning is the fragile acoustic guitar piece "Wades song". An album for collectors, to be sure.

The music here is very nice, but the recording quality is quite disappointing. All tracks were recorded live by fans (I think), so it sounds nowhere near as good as their studio recordings. Not a bad record, but I'd rather listen to something that sounds full and clear.
