Monk's ninth studio album for Columbia, recorded on 14 November: Ellington's "I Didn't Know About You"; a new composition "Green Chimneys" and Fanny Crosby and Phoebe Knapp's "This Is My Story, This Is My Song," and on 15 November 1966: "Locomotive". On 10 January 1967 the quartet recorded the remaining compositions "Straight, No Chaser", "We See" and "Kojo No Tsuki" also known as "Japanese Folk Song," and the session was completed with a solo version of "Between The Devil And The Deep Blue Sea."
"This Is My Story, This Is My Song" was not released until 1979 on the compilation Thelonious Monk - Always Know. "Green Chimneys" was only released on the CD issue of the album in 1996.

Gotta agree with GVC below. Was lucky enough to snatch this up at a bargain and it's easily one of my favorite LPs in my audiophile jazz collection by far. -

Absolute pure gorgeousness! The full studio sessions without edits, for the first time ever on vinyl, on 2LP,s with all analog mastering at Coherent Audio by Kevin Grey & Robert Pincus, and heavy stock glossy gatefold cover from original elements by Robert Slider. Of all the audiophile LP's I have, the sound of this is simply, the most jaw dropping. Don't have too many Impex releases but even with the 3 that I have, this is on another planet -

Confused by the review saying this pressing doesn't sound good - it sounds phenomenal to my ears. Nothing to compare it to, but the band is lively, dynamic, and well-represented across the frequency range. Buy without hesitation. -
Seems like all reviews of Impex are either glowing recommendations or "I'm on my third copy..."... I know the company uses those weird stiff plastic inners that I have no idea why anybody would want and this could be part of the problem here... pay MOFI to do a run of Impex branded rice paper sleeves and I think a lot of these problems would go away... I had the Duke Ellington Orchestra as my only Impex, sure enough it came with those stiff plastic inners, and sure enough it had audible scuffs... hear everybody claiming how wonderful these pressings and masterings are, but if they're coming scratched out of the sleeve what's the point of spending the money? I don't have the Ellington anymore... And it wasn't cheap. -

Smokes.... and i genuinely mean SMOKES my old UK cut and the Music On Vinyl editions.
Consider this edition the one to rule them all from packaging to pressing to sound. -
Exceptional reissue across the board. Easily one of my favorite jazz reissues I’ve acquired in the past year. Sound is excellent. -
Edited one year agoI tried 3 copies of this one and all all them came with pressing problems. All of them came with a bunch of loud ticks and pops at the beginning of side B and D, these were in the same places, so I'm assuming there was some problem with the metal parts. That is annoying, but I would it. The worst for me is that they all came with some scratching or small non-fill spots causing even more noise. I tried the 3 copies in between the last two months.

The soundstage on this record is astonishing. You can place every member and instrument instantaneously and it sounds absolutely as if you're in the studio listening to them perform. Absolutely audiophile recording.

So, what differentiates this from the 2022 pressing aside from the UPC sticker? Mine has Dr. Groove in Side D's deadwax but there's nothing on the 2022 release page that indicates runout markings. Plus mine arrived without any UPC sticker. How do we know this is a 2024 press?
