O'Jays* – Back Stabbers

This is handles down one of the greatest soul records ever recorded. The orchestra arrangements are lush. The vocals are effortless and powerful. The message is socially conscience and still relevant. This album is a perfect blend of R and B, soul, and a touch of psychedelic. Wait else is there to say? Buy this immediately if you don't own it or dust it off and give it a play. You won't regret it!

Wonderful album all around! But if you're looking for Backstabbers I suggest hunt down a 45 because my copy kills it compared to it here.

Obviously Love Train is a very popular song. After listening to this album all the way through. I can see how it is a great record. Fun listen. Recommended.

Can anyone comment on the sound quality of this pressing?

People, Get On Board!!!! What can be said about this classic??!! Oh yeah, it's the BOMB!!!

Everything came together for "The O'Jays" (now down to just "Eddie Levert", "Walter Williams" and "William Powell") behind the direction of "Kenny Gamble" & "Leon Huff"...."In Philadelphia" just knocked on the door..."Back Stabbers" kicked the door down!!!

And the "Title Track" (1st Crown Jewel) and other massive hit and 2nd Crown Jewel, "Love's Train" (#1), are not the only songs that are worth mentioning....

"992 Arguments" (3rd Crown Jewel) may be slightly a funny way of describing how bad a relationship can get...

"Time To Get Down" (4th Crown Jewel) is a great way to tell someone to stop playing games and let's get our "Thang" together....

Some of their best songs had great social commentary....

That definitely applies to "Shiftless, Shady, Jealous Kind Of People", and the 5th Crown Jewel, "When The World's At Peace", with its driving "Funk", accompanied by some serious Punchy Horns.....

The group also had the gip to gab for some fantastic Slow Jams....

"Listen To The Clock On The Wall", is a Gem, even though its talking about cheating....

The 6th Crown Jewel in "Who Am I" is so good, that in my opinion, it should have finished the album...It is a straight drama type t about losing the one you love...

And who can forget the 7th Crown Jewel in "Sunshine", with its sweet pulsing melody surrounding "Eddie LeVert's" powerful Vocals....

The only dud to me was "(They Call Me) Mr. Lucky"...It wasn't terrible, it was just ok...

This album opened the way for, not just "The O'Jays", but other "Philadelphia International" artists as well (especially when it came to the Social Conscious Records)....

It came out in 1972 to speak to us, and it still tells us like it is here in the 2020's!!!!!

My edition got "Mastered by Frankford/Wayne" stamped on the runout on the A-side. Does anyone else got that stamp?

This is a fantastic sounding pressing. One of the better Canadian pressings.
