Didn't think I'd find my version on here but this seems to be it. A hybrid with two different logos.. the original Hollywood Records logo on the artwork but the redesigned logo on the disc. I purchased mine in late 2004. Decent sound quality but it seems the Eddy Schreyer discs in this series always sound a bit off, whether they be originally analog mastered or digital like this album was, he seems to EQ a certain muddiness. -
This 2011 remaster sounds superb on cd (and a lot better than a 1984 vinyl ... the master tape is digital indeed); great job!

This pressing sounds phenomenal. Very clear sound with lots of dynamic range, I wish every vinyl sounded like it. Its one of my favorites in my collection.
-
why does Walmart have this listed as "Queen & Adam Lambert" - The Works ?? Were Freddie's vocals replaced or something?

Good pressing, silent and dynamic even though it was mastered digitally -

The 1984 CD with maroon face was UK and USA but pressed in Japan. The USA should say Capitol as Queen signed with them for the USA starting with The Works. Capitol is on the artwork! The late 1986 EMI catalog has silver face discs.
I find it hard to image this album was remastered again in 1986 for the EMI catalog on CD! It was for The Complete Works vinyl boxset in late 1985. -

Ciao, ho aggiunto questa nuova Release, effettuate pure tutte le modifiche che ritenete opportune.
Hi, I added this new release, feel free to make any changes you deem appropriate. -
Edited one year agoI have this version. No barcode. CD made in Japan. Sounds airy, spacious, clear and Freddie’s vocal is fantastic. Guitars are great and full. Bass is deep too. Sounds natural and uncompressed. Hard to believe it will be 40 years old on February 27!!!!
Is it the best Queen album of the 80s?
Mack was a great producer. I think David Richards was better at lighter music, but Freddie was ill on the last two albums he produced. I also have original vinyl UK/Irish pressings, Complete Works version, 1/2 speed master. Cassette. 1994 Digital Master, 2011 Bob Ludwig master!
Let’s compare the 3 CD versions I own in a
Technics SL-P550 CD player from 1988
With Pioneer DJ earphones (HDJ-X5).
1984 Toshiba - Excellent, detailed, great natural sound, easy on the ears!
1994 Digital Master - Louder, more compressed and a bit bullish. Seems a little distorted. A bit colder. Not an improvement. Irritating on the ears after a few minutes.
2009 Bob Ludwig - Much louder. More bass. Higher compression. Highs seem forced. Freddie’s voice seems to have lots more sibilances. Hard on the ears when there’s lots going on in the mix like in a chorus or multilayer vocals. I had to back the volume off. Dynamics are sadly lacking even though the mix is clearer. It’s warm but hard going.
The original 1984 is the clear winner!
