Edited one year agoThis may not be unauthorised. Consequential Rainbo Records matrix numbers to 2002 reissue of Malik's "Sounds of Africa". So this may be a 2002 Rhino/Scorpio reissue?. Sounds better than most unauthorised releases and the labels and jacket look authentic. Anyone can clarify?

If anyone wants to hear how this one sounds. (Spoilers; Not fantastic) There are previews of the Life Goes On pressing on: https://www.juno.co.uk/products/ahmed-abdul-the-music-of-ahmed-abdul/931656-01/
I wouldn't recommend it. Little snaps an pops can be heard throughout. It sounds like it gets worse the further into the LP it goes based on the audio previews. Sounds to me like Life Goes On digitized an old Stereo edition of this and cut masters for their run of it. It's almost bearable but it could be so much better. A real shame since the album has been out of print for so long. -

Although uncredited, two compositions credited to Abdul-Malik are actually older calypso songs from Trinidad. "The Hustlers" follows the melody of Atilla The Hun's "Five Year Plan", and "Hannibal's Carnivals" is Duke of Iron's "Don't Stop The Carnival" - both of which predate this album by years. It is worth noting that Abdul-Malik was himself of Caribbean parentage, and is known to have worked with calypso bands in New York, despite later claiming that his family was Sudanese.
