I hate picking favorite recordings. Not possible. This is definitely in the top 100 however! Perhaps top three by Byrd. Pepper Adams is in fine form here. I am suspecting company finances played a part in Blue Note not releasing some music. Certainly not because of an artistic issue on this one.

Great set, should have been released. Herbie Handcock’s first Blue Note date! These 70’s and 80’s Blue Notes get a bad rap for no reason. The artwork sucks, but the music is great. It will probably be released as a tone poet album, and all the experts will be praising this set.
