While probably not as crucial for postpunk listeners as the albums that bookend it, The Key of Dreams is nonetheless an interesting and unique record that ups the Krautrock-esque psychedelia and angular tension of the debut Always Now while somehow smoothing it off into almost relaxing territory with its sightly softer aesthetic, while preserving an underlying sense of disquiet and bleakness. It reminds me of a (only just) more chilled out Metal Box. By the way, I accidentally hit the mono switch on my amp while playing this and I think it actually made it sound better. YMMV.
