Although this is only my 5th favorite Funkadelic album, it is hands down the best cut/pressing on vinyl I have ever heard of any Funkadelic record. Breathtaking sound. Shimmering guitars wailing in full glory. Bass licks so crisp and full. Pristine vocals. Drums, yes even the drums get their due! And dear god Worrell's vamp on Atmosphere sounds of another world. I may have levitated the first spin. This is one of those records cut so good it jumps to life from your system and smacks you right out of your chair. Yes the mastering by Wysock is absolutely top. Yes the Santa Maria sound is so apparent here as well. Yes better than the Terre Haute and the Pitman. Yes you need this.
Why can't all Funkadelic records sound this good? For decades I have struggled to find decent cuts/pressings of their other records. I think the world is desperate for some AAA reissues. Hopefully we'll get them. But before you shell out hundreds of dollars for an original Maggot Brain that doesn't sound all that good, you should really give this one a spin. Again, not one of my favorites from them but it stays in heavy rotation on my system over the others because I enjoy hearing the sound THAT much. Records like this are what make the format worth all the time and effort digging. -
Uh Huh... I really love it when the median price of an album in my collection especially in this case a bloody PROMO copy, is shown as a paltry $31 in G+ condition. Wow, that sure reflects the value of my nice NM copy, doesn't it? (do I need to add the sarcasm thing?)
