Edited 2 months agoI'm very impressed with this release....good sound separation and punchy bass....🎸🎸

To the best that I can make out, I have this 2009 pressing. After seeing all the complaints I was pretty worried. Anyway, gave it a brush down with a carbon brush and then the ol spray n wipe. Was too impatient to do a deep clean with the Disko Antistat as I wanted to check it. Man….. Dead flat, no warps or jumps, quiet and the sound is absolutely thunderous! Clean, clear, warm, no sibilance, punchy lows and no distortion. Not the greatest separation ever, or the widest soundstage. But definitely very very good. I’m running entry-fi gear (Denon DP-300F with an AT VM95E, a Denon PMA600NE amp powering Q Acoustic 3050i towers) but have a reasonable collection with some very decent quality pressings and this record has not disappointed me one bit! It plays better than some of my more expensive and vaunted pressings of various genres. Perhaps I’ve gotten very lucky but this has been a stellar pressing. Much better than many other modern reissues I’ve had. I’m sure it’ll get even better with a deep clean. 🥃

Edited 5 months agoAs other reviews have mentioned, this particular pressing is no good. Lacks dynamics, and sounds flat. Percussion instruments sound very compressed at times. The real kicker is the horrible distortion and sibilance that comes along at/after the third track on both sides, even after several cleans, and a properly set up decent system (AT VM95ML, Technics SL-1500C). Avoid this pressing. The packaging is nice though.

Edited 5 months agoJust got a new copy of this to replace my first one ( bought on day of release), and I have to say it plays brilliantly, no issues at all . Just lucky I guess. Played the old one after and it’s definitely worn out . can’t really get my head around how old it is or how old I am.

Edited 5 months agoI got very lucky on my copy, it seems. There was a little bit of noise at the beginning of Hells Bells, but it's going away after each play through. I have a little bit of inner-groove distortion at the very end of Rock and Roll Ain't Noise Pollution, but nowhere else on the record. Either they've fixed their pressing equipment, or I got lucky. Either way, I'd say be careful, seems a bit of a crapshoot on this one.

"Let Me Put My Love Into You" sounds like it's be recorded under water... Distorted to F even after cleaning with a wet cleaner twice..(It helps but stills sounds a hot mess)

Edited one year agowell, it seems it's not a bad pressing in general but there are some copys that do have flaws. My LP sounds not totally bad but a bit lifeless and muffled sometimes and on "Given The Dog A Bone" it seems there's a Gremlin sitting in my Amp and messing with my Midrange. I have some sort of wave throughout the song. up, down, up, down, etc.
Same on "Back In Black"
"Let Me Put My Love Into You" is heavily distorted. -
This pressing sounds really firm and tight in the bass, mid's and highs. Great drum sound. Brian is centred without a ocean of reverb ( Fly on the Wall? 😂). I can highly recommend this pressing.
Equipment:
Rega RP40, Rega Ania Pro MC stylus, Rega Aria Mk3 RIAA, Mackie MS1202VLZPro mixer (modified), Quested V2108 active speakers x 3, Quested VS2108 active speakers x 2, Quested SB10R Active 10" subwoofer (14Hz - 45Hz). -
Edited 5 months agoLike most modern publications, this is the same crap. From the beginning of each side crunch. Noisy pressing. On both sides, closer to the center of the record, distortion begins at mid-high and high frequencies. I'm glad I got rid of this garbage.
About the good.. нeavy vinyl, great quality jacket and inner lining! Decorated flawlessly! -
Edited 5 months agoGot a copy that's warped. Also there's annoying crackling in the beginning of "Hells Bells" that lasts until the song starts properly. Not happy with this copy and have to return it. Inner groove distortion wasn't an issue.
