Don't know if luck is the key to get a nice pressing of this one but in this case I was. I was very surprised when the needle reached the vinyl to release a perfect silence. The only minor pops I can hear are on side D but they don't ruin the whole thing. So if you're a Lucky Man like me you will enjoy it a lot, definitely worth the shot. Way worth to buy this yellow version than the crappy expensive grey smoked one.

bad bad bad distortion on panavision. cleaned a few times to no avail. im not buying LPs anymore. The Smile should have better care of those who buy their music.Such a disappointement.

I hate it when you have to get lucky with a record ..... but thankfully I did on this occasion. Great music on a great sounding album.

Must add my voice to offset some of these negative reviews - I ordered my copy direct from the band store and this has to be be one of the most stunning sounding records I own. Only required a brushing with my anti static brush and sounds great straight out of the card sleeves. Flat, quiet vinyl sound dynamic with a massive sound stage. I can only think that some of the reviews must relate to the GZ pressing, would be worth checking the matrices to make sure you have the optimal pressing. That said I have had some GZ pressings that also sound great.

Too bad this seems to be hit and miss. I'm one of the lucky ones, my copy is super quiet throughout and sounds stunning, big soundstage, great instrument separation, lots of depth and warmth. I have an Optimal pressing, same runouts and no Czech Republic sticker. But it seems that GZ pressings clearly aren't US only (as indicated in the other Discogs entry) and also made their way into the European marked, so that may be a reason for the mixed reviews.

Another reason could be the paper inners that can lead to varying degrees of surface noise, depending on how much the discs got shaken around inside. Also happened to me in other cases. I don't understand why this practice still is so popular with labels. Pack the discs in poly-lined sleeves and the inner sleeves separately - or even better, why not do more custom printed poly-lined sleeves?

Kinda expected better. Like others a very noisy copy lots of static cracks and pops. Mine has a clear sticker saying Made in Czech Republic, don’t know if that means it is from an inferior pressing plant. Such a shame as it’s a great album.

My copy is amazing - sounds superb with no issues at all. The yellow vinyl looks great, and the album artwork and inner sleeves are really well made.

Love the music - really glad to have this in my collection!

My main complaint with this pressing (Optimal) is that there is unbearable inner groove distortion at the end of all four sides. Otherwise I think it sounds fine. Definitely surface noise on all four sides as well, nothing particularly distracting.

Great album but one of the worst pressings I’ve got in my collection. Pops, crackles galore, clicks. I’m not convinced with the mastering either. Shame. I’m not going near the CD because I’m sure the audio has been annihilated, like the
                    Radiohead albums.
It’s frustrating that artists like this clearly take so much care and attention in creating their wonderful music, but then hand it on to a bunch of people who appear to have no experience of cutting and mastering audio.

                    5 stars for the music
2 stars for the vinyl. The sleeve is quality, otherwise it would be a 1.

                    I really don’t recommend this.

Wow I believe a lot of the people commenting here must own a GZ copy, because mine and all 3 of my friends who purchased directly from the band store (Optimal copy) got impeccable and flawless records. Sounds rich, layered, with deep bass and completely silent from start to finish.
