Technically, what does "half speed" mastering means? I always thought that, on tapes, the faster the tape speeds, the better the sound quality.

Just picked this up and my side B is edge warped and has a knick in it so bad that it skips. Really disappointed in this as the rest of it sounds amazing. Not sure the shop I bought it at will have another copy of this either. Too bad. I’ve emailed Mr bongo to see what they can do for me, will update here if I hear back.

Label says Mono Compatible Stereo (stereo compativel mono), and tbh I think it sounds way better in mono.

Easily one of the best records ever made. Colored records need to be really cool to be worth getting, and this golden record shines. Quiet (just a little surface noise) with fantastic dynamics

Amazing pressing ! Packaging is really classy with all the goodies, the vinyl is gorgeous and it's dead quiet !

Edited 2 years agoI think I've heard probably every version of this record. I own the Love n' Haight one, wasn't ever happy with it and finally bought this version of the half speed. I discovered this album over 15 years ago from an OG vinyl rip which is still my go to but never heard the actual OG but whatever this version sounds sublime. I'm glad I held out because the extras in this 60th anniversary edition are super sweet though I haven't opened the envelope (maybe I won't?) but I may frame the poster. No flaws on my pressing, nice and flat and little noise. The presentation of the Verocai interiew is really nice and it's quite a good interview too. I honestly never truly understood his concept and found it frustrating that the songs seem to fade out when they are just about to stretch out but hearing explain his vision makes it make a whole lot of sense. It's almost like a dream band that never was but we just get to hear the best parts. If it were an actual band, imagine?!! Verocai was a true risk taker and it cost him but it's so good to see his music and his career revived.

Good luck getting one that isn't edge warped. They crammed so much stuff into the gatefold (good in intention) that it warped two copies I tried in the exact same way.

Edited 2 years agoWow! What an amazing recording, the music quality is sublime as is the vinyl pressing. Mr Bongo have re released a complete beauty from 1972, heard the rumours about this album, just get it, sit back and bask in the sonic sensation.
Love it!!

Edited 2 years agoWonderful sound and a beautiful edition. You can find some copies at Medusa Records in São Paulo, Brazil, the first record store to have some copies in the country.
