The rework On side A is, to no-ones surprise, a tune that smashes it out the park considering the stakes of getting to remix one of the most influential atmospheric jungle tunes to have come out, just listen to tapes of sets of the time and those who are still around today were the ones championing it then.
But, more importantly you should listen to the AA side. Absolutely smashing jazz infused funky flavour. Perhaps a vision of if the 1920s jazz clubs had discovered ecstacy a little sooner. A tune that should be caned at maximum volume every possible time. There are plenty of jazzy dnb tunes which are fantastic but this is the gold standard to me, never gets boring.
Proof is in the pudding when Bukem, Fabio, Doc Scott were playing it.
TLDR; Both Sides are absolutely banging, especially side AA, buy this thing before you have you mortgage your house for it! -
Edited 5 months agoThe only word that comes to my mind when hearing Peshay's rework is "Grand"
An absolutely majestic trip 👏 -
Yes, yes! Almost 30 years on from this release & it's still getting attention, as it should.
Two pioneers in Peshay & LTJ combine here for a double A side which packs plenty of punch.
The Music rework is just great, released a few years after the original... It's a deep, hypnotic roller which doesn't get too frantic. Perfect for the middle of a set BITD.
Begins with an intro long enough to make a cup of coffee, beats slide in eventually before taking you to a deep break. All good things must come to an end... with DJ friendly outro beats.
If you liked the original, chances are this also gets the thumbs up. I can only Peshay & LTJ pushing this in their sets at the time.
The newer Technicolour Music remix (also very good) has a similar feel to the Peshay rework...
Jazz Lick is also A+++, another long intro & very much on the funky side of things. Head nodding two step beats over blue style keys & just like the title, a real Jazz Lick. A simple enough tune, which definitely shows less is sometimes more. I'm sure there is a compilation mix out there with legendary Conrad over the top of Jazz Lick.
Both tracks come in around 10 mins each, bang for your buck.
Hipster artists, take note.
They were the days...

Peshay's rework of music is such a fresh hallucinatory vibe, full of warm atmosphere, fxs and it builds and builds, one of the best of the more ambient side of jungle.

I keep coming back to the Music rework from time to time. It is one of the most emotional d&b tunes I own, and a pretty remarkable achievement in that it stands side by side with the original, which is one of the bona fide seminal tunes in the entire genre.
Have to give maximum props to Jazz Lick too - a DJ's dream long intro to mix in with, then the drop into a proper fat, head nodding, happy boogie down roller. And that trombone!! Fabio time.
Fair play Peshay - outstanding 12" -
I didn't think a worthy remix of Music could be made, since the original is a timeless classic, but this is a great example of taking a classic and just tweaking / adding / removing. Calling it a 'rework' instead of remix is very apt. Jazz Lick is a cool, chilled funky work-out. And this is a steal at the price, a very worthwhile purchase. Excellent!

I like Bukem, but this right here is an example of the power of the collab. Peshay takes us even higher than before, lifted up by the birds and a relentless drum. Ridiculously under-priced, buy it.

Peshay's reworking is very faithful to the original which is to it's credit because it's the type of tune that's so classic it's marked 'handle with care'! He does just enough to enhance the original, bringing the beat up to date and adding some nice strings at the end. Jazz Lick could quite easily be put into the bracket of lounge muzak, but it's got enough going for it to break out of that and the excellent mood created by Peshay is unmistakable. You definately get your money's worth with this release as the running time for both tracks is getting close to twenty minutes!
