Notes
Gatefold textured sleeve with a tuck-in envelope/wallet to the back sleeve.
Front (Hessian) Picture is pasted on.
Copies are pressed on, what looks like, translucent blood-red vinyl, this is down to the vinyl formula used by Tranco Ltd. This is visible only against a strong light.
The labels without 'Made in England' text.
An almost identical UK version also without MADE IN ENGLAND underneath DICK JAMES MUSIC LIMITED on the labels here
- Has the text on either side of the spindle hole offset lower - see the position of ℗ 1972
- Also on the labels, the text on that release has a larger gap between "ELTON JOHN" and "Produced by Gus Dudgeon"

I had a few different good sounding UK original pressings before I got this one earlier today. This is probably the most dynamic pressing of the ones I’ve, it’s crankable and begs to be played loud. I love it.

Edited one year ago...Here's a quirky thing: the labels on my copy of *this version* has the "SIDE 1/SIDE 2" & "33·1/3 RPM, etc" text offset higher to the spindle hole (as pictured), but has the greater spacing between "ELTON JOHN" & "Produced by Gus Dudgeon" as seen on the labels of the other (comparable) version and as referenced in the Discogs "Notes" info above; everything else (envelope/wallet, gatefold, blood-red wine translucent vinyl) otherwise being the same...Go figure...

The older pressings are the best. If you can get a clean copy they sound fantastic. Modern pressings are terrible.

My 2017 RM 180g copy looked great but played horribly.. Boomy, muddy, almost cancelling play itself. Deep cleaning did not help. Sold it and picked up the 1972 UK A2/B2. Huge improvement! A powerful and dynamic gem.

After putting this record through my project vc-e cleaning machine
It sounds unbelievable, as good as audiophile releases, quiet, dynamic, amazing! -
Hard to tell which issue this as as the small flap which has the tuck-in tag on is not shown but 1st issues have a large slot and tag (77 mm) and the regular tag/slot is half this size at 38 mm. The tag is a completely different shape to the common smaller tag.
