Opinions on The Cranberries, the album No Need to Argue, and especially Dolores O'Riordans vocals:

No need to argue is a at times tragic album... in the most beautiful way. Dolores O'Riordan's voice is angelic, but the lyrics of these songs are really what drives the 'tragic' sound. Even more than my love for her voice I ire how up for interpretation and how poetic her lyrics are. I have heard people say things about Dolores', saying she sounds like a dying goose. This really made me see how different perspectives can be. I think that in some songs her 'imperfect' voice adds to the charm and relate-ability of the band as a whole. The deceivingly simple guitar parts stand out to me aswell. Most importantly, in my opinion, the mix and contrast in these songs is what tops it off. The soft intros, verses, etc found in many of these songs make the chorus stand out even more. The contrast in verse to chorus is a very basic principle but The Cranberries are a perfect example of how impactful it can be. The soft voice of Dolores O'Riordan, sounding somtimes as she is on the verge of tears, changes mood dramatically from verse to chorus, in combination with the instrumentation that is what I believe is the recipe to make such emotional songs.

Goes without saying but this is all my opinion, I love to see different perspectives.
