Whenever I check out these pages, I really can't escape the thought that I really wish I had access to time travel so I could pick up the vinyl editions of these albums. It's so striking. This was one of the very first CD's I ever purchased - this and Pearl Jam's Vs. At the time, I thought it was such a coup to get this music on CD, rather than cassette or vinyl. It cost more - typically CDs, if they weren't on sale, would run you $15-$16, whereas cassettes and vinyl were usually, if new and not on sale, $9-$10. And in fairness, the CD held up - I've never seen "disk rot", even on my oldest CDs, and the sound is great. They can be played over and over again without any effect on sound quality. A few years later, of course, we'd enjoy the other advantage of CD's - the ease of ripping to any digital format we wanted. So sitting there in the 90s, of course it made sense to spend a bit more to get the CD version. It would have blown me away to learn that in the 2020s, the vinyl editions I overlooked as the cheaper, more delicate, funny format would be selling for $100s, and the CDs would be practically given away for less than $1. I do wonder - had file sharing never emerged, had digital s and streaming never happened, would these still be the price dynamics of the second-hand market? Surely CDs would be still be the dominant format in that world, and these CDs maintaining their value. I guess the consolation is, it's probably a mistake to think the prices these command in the aftermarket reflect their full value. Those price points just reflect supply/demand. But for me, even if I couldn't sell them for much at all - if I even could find a buyer - I got my money's worth the joy they've given me for 30+ years. I've come to love vinyl too, don't misunderstand - but CDs are a sadly underappreciated format, and a true marvel. Maybe I'm biased because this was one of my first, but I am kind of taken by the fact that after so much time, this CD still sounds just as amazing as it did the day I purchased it.

Bought a mint copy for a fiver in an Oxfam record shop in Southampton. Wasn’t gonna buy it at first cos I thought it was a bit overpriced for what I was getting. Turns out I was wrong lol.

I bought this wonderful album in the 90's in Aachen - - as I live directly near the border.
In , vinyl was still sold quite a lot, but in Holland it was mainly cd's that were sold.....Then I already knew, that vinyl was superior.
I'm so glad to have this original. And I feel sorry for those who bought it on cd...... -
Edited 4 years agoI bunked off school to go and get this in Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street in 1994 and it has been played at least once every 6 weeks since then. It sounds as good as it did 23 years ago. A really good pressing from a time when cds had (unfortunately) taken over. Worth every penny to get an original i'd say; the sound is fantastic on it and the sleeve and inner are lovely matt paper, not too thick and not too thin-just right. If you hold this band close to your heart and can afford it, go for an original.

I can`t find this re-issue anywhere!
Have anyone bought it? Where?
How does it sound?
Please enlighten me! -
this is so expensive because they only pressed up a few or what? makes no sense for such and album that sold billions of copies.
