Compared to the MSFL 45 RPM my original US Warner Bros copy that I purchased new in 1978 for $4.99 the original copy wins hands down. The MFSL to me has over bloated bass and emphasized highs where the original copy is more even on all levels with perfect bass, mids and highs. I picked up the MFSL shortly after it was originally released and had reservations from the start and will play it every now and then and haven't changed my mind. This original WB copy is pure perfection.

Great pressing, solid well balanced EQ for the win. Strident guitars and nice deep bass, all presented with a nice soundstage.

I see no bad reviews here but even though I need to let my testimony: This pressing sounds fantastic. I can’t see how it could sound any better. Besides that, the artwork is very elegant and the vinyl is QUIEX II translucent brown. How could it be better for 20 dollars?

Amazing how this old record sounds so great. This is how they should all be, and this was a 'standard' pressing? Id get this over a mofi because its spot on and you dont have to pay the mofi price!

This is what analog is all about. Just beautiful…natural as nudity! It’s warm, saturated, and balanced. My copy is VG+ but has some minor surface noise for some reason but the dynamics are so freaking good I don’t care. You can’t take that ten dollars out of your pocket fast enough to pick up a copy.

Just purchased this from Brother's Records (great seller) what an amazing sounding album!! So glad I did my research and picked this pressing! This went to my top 20 records to play shelf! (go to pile lol) well not piled but stored up right.

I can agree with everyone here. This pressing sounds fantastic. I don’t have anything to compare it to but I can’t see how it could sound any better.

this is one of the best sounding records in my collection. definitely an album i’d use to show people what soundscape means. it has depth, balance, everything is in its right place.
also, the content… i mean, you can’t go wrong with early dire straits.

My rating for the three Dire Straits S/T. Hana red cart, VPI Prime Signature, Modwright 9.0x, Lessloss cables, rolled Primaluna 300, Lessloss connects with Focal Stellia headphones or Volti Rival speakers:
1. 2009 Because Sound Matters, https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/release/2699975-Dire-Straits-Dire-StraitsThis is really one of the best pressings I own. It is LOL good. Almost (!) too bright on the high end/treble but this is system dependent of course (up to a point anyway). Also very quiet. 9.9/10.
2. this one -1978 Jacksonville, https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/release/5111244-Dire-Straits-Dire-Straits . A very, very good, natural sounding pressing with excellent sound stage. Puts a smile on my face and again, very, very nice listen but not in my top tier. 9.0/10
3. Mofi, https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/release/14391974-Dire-Straits-Dire-Straits this isn’t a bad sounding record but was a disappointment the first time I listened to it and that hasn't changed. Just kind of blah IMO and a bit veiled. Probably better than my 80s CD but probably not by a lot. 7.5 /10. -
You simply can't go wrong with these original Warner pressings, they have a lot of dynamic and punch to them all the way through, though this pressing seems to somewhat lack a bit of high end, and the instruments can sometimes be a bit congested, such as on Sultans Of Swing, which is just nothing but bass. Nonetheless, this is a recommendable release.
