Track 10 is wrongly listed as Ben Liebrand Mix and wrongly credited to Ben Liebrand. Confirmed by Ben himself that this is NOT his remix (in fact it's the Club Mix by Dancin' Danny D).
* The top drums that were heard in Genie were snares, cowbells, claps, kicks, and hi-hats from the 1980 Roland TR-808 drum machine.

Great album from beginning to end, however, if you think this was mastered from the original tapes, guess again. As with most PTG releases, done from vinyl rips. Very sad.

Edited 13 years agoIf you’re a fan of 80’s soul & funk, you’ll probably this album from its first release back in 1985. This is a re-issue of the ‘Genie’ album, but bundled in with the original track line up are a host of remixes by the likes of Shep Pettibone and Ben Liebrand. Some of these remixes were released as 12” singles following the original release of the album. The bands lead vocalist, Curtis Hairston had one of the most underrated voices of that era. There’s no doubt about it, he was a class act. His performance on this album is outstanding. Even with the added bonus of all the extra remixes, the title track ‘Genie’ IMO is still the pick of the bunch on this release. In closing, if you want to replace your old vinyl copy of ‘Genie’ you can’t go wrong with this…
