Incredibly good album with so many brilliant songs! They did everything right here. Definitely the peak moment of this group. However, the cover artwork does no justice to the quality of this record. -

Love this album. So 1980's
Bought this new in '85 and still love it now (on vinyl)! -

Straight up classic mid-80s boogie business right here, compared to other LPs of the time a ridiculous amount of heaters (Genie, Main Attraction, On The Shelf, Dreamer, Riccochet), I was aware that all these tracks existed in the boogie universe but was reminded last night when I listened to the album in its entirety that they were all on the same LP. The added touch of Curtis Hairston on vocals makes this an essential part of every funk collection. This was around the time when a lot of 80s boogie bands were switching to more of that street soul sound (SOS Band, Change, etc), which is very evident on Genie. Mellowed out boogie at its best! -

One of my favorite funk albums of all time. Good from start to finish. -

Great album from beginning to end, however, if you think this was mastered from the original tapes, guess again. As with most PTG releases, done from vinyl rips. Very sad. -

REALLY terrible mastering on this. Quite disappointing. I am guessing the mastering engineer thought it would be a good idea to over-exaggerate the low end and sacrifice the highs? And the compression? no thanks!
It appears to have been sourced from the master tapes at least, compared to the vinyl masterpiece 2006 issue, which was most likely a vinyl transfer. -

If you’re a fan of 80’s soul & funk, you’ll probably this album from its first release back in 1985. This is a re-issue of the ‘Genie’ album, but bundled in with the original track line up are a host of remixes by the likes of Shep Pettibone and Ben Liebrand. Some of these remixes were released as 12” singles following the original release of the album. The bands lead vocalist, Curtis Hairston had one of the most underrated voices of that era. There’s no doubt about it, he was a class act. His performance on this album is outstanding. Even with the added bonus of all the extra remixes, the title track ‘Genie’ IMO is still the pick of the bunch on this release. In closing, if you want to replace your old vinyl copy of ‘Genie’ you can’t go wrong with this…
