Edited 10 months agoThis 2016 pressing sounds absolutely phenomenal! I would certainly recommend this one over the more recent Half Speed Master reissues.
-
Brought a copy in 2023, at my local store, , apparently from Mr Bongo reissue. What a great pressing, great string & horns arrangements as always with Verocai, powerful record. Very accessible in price.
-
This is how reissues should be done. No extraneous shit. Just straight up replica and good, honest pressing. This is how you help eradicate scalpers on the secondhand market.
-
I’m sticking with this one after listening to the HSM one. To my ears this pressing sounds more authentic, particularly the horns. They are brassier, grubbier. Love it!

THIS IS THE VERSION YOU WANT!
Every one after this is the "improved" Half Speed Master and does not sound better IMHO. This is way more dynamic and louder. Punchier bass, chimey-er electric piano, lusher strings, syrupy flutes. It all comes through much better than the HSM . I had both. This one first and then Got the HSM on the promise that it sured this one , but trust, it doesn't. F@#$ Half Speed! -
A close friend of of mine, who is a serious Brazilian collector, who has been to Brazil 20 times or more, had the opportunity to meet with and have dinner at Arthur Verocai's house in Rio de Janeiro., post this 2012 reissue. Over dinner, he asked him about this remastered pressing, Arthur said bluntly, "I have not heard it, and I don't want to hear it". Take from that what you will.

This sounds sooooo goooooooood! High quality vinyl, great mastering. Even if you're one of the ten people who own an original, may as well buy this one to play.
-
Bought this edition in Barcelona last year, AMAZING sound quality. Forget about trying an original pressing for millions. This is the one!

This sounds so good. I don't know how the other reissues sound, but THIS is the one to buy. Such an awesome deal.
