Edited one month agoVery welcoming sound, excellent depth and warmth and dynamics. Very good, not a gatefold
The issues that are present on northern soul or storm in heaven are not on this, this is a phenomenal sound. -

I wasn't terribly impressed with the 2016 North American vinyl reissue of A STORM IN HEAVEN, but this reissue of URBAN HYMNS is much more impressive. My old CD sounded just fine, but the vinyl is considerably better... Nick McCabe's guitar takes on an added resonance, "The Rolling People", "One Day" and "Velvet Morning" in particular have more depth and atmosphere, there are a lot of subtle little nuances that stand out more, and the soundstage sounds so much more organic, spacious, and expansive. It's mastered at a lower volume than what seems to be normal for reissues of more recent vintage, so make sure you turn it up. My copy was purchased secondhand, but is in immaculate condition, flat and quiet, nice and clean, with no noticeable surface noise. Good stuff.

What can be said that hasn’t been said here already. Great depth, separation, bass, etc. you need to seek out this specific run out matrix. All other copies I’ve heard pale in comparison. This is the one. I’ve always thought Sonnet was the hidden gem on this LP and I feel like I’m hearing it for the first time again.

So i spent over an hour trying to identify my copy that was bought on Amazon sold by Musicroom, the issues i was having is that the was no hologram on the back of the cover that is shown in the images, then i was looking at the matrix, and mine is etched wrong, and has STU and not Matt. i fairly sure i just have a different variation, and its the same release.
I also agree with other comments about the quality, not all tracks sound clear, while the pressing is very good, i feel more could have been done for this release, that being said its still great album, with a new found appreciation as its been some years about 20 since i last listened to this glorious album. -
Edited 3 years agoBut what they fail to mention on the hype sticker is the album was recorded on tape, then transferred to protools for editing then transferred back to tape for mastering. So it's not fully analogue.

What a great pressing and remaster. Incredibly detailed, it's like I'm hearing these songs for the first time. Highly recommended!
-
Very pleased with this pressing! Quiet, flat, dynamic, I've owned the CD for almost 25 years now and, this was more engaging.

This sounds awesome. PLENTY of bass too. Very clear and well mastered. Vocals stand out but just the right amount. Buy with confidence.
