I like this a lot. Plays quiet, no pops, fairly dynamic (could be a bit more punchy), but overall very good. Rega P10, aura, BW 803s.

Flawless pressing for me as played on a Rega 3

….PS; My Technics SL-110A table has an Ortofon cart/stylus attaced to a “black widow” arm….not exactly a “sewing needle”. Listened front to back a second time, I’m quite satisfied ….
Luck of the draw I guess.

Vinyl is quiet and well pressed. I have a very strong collection of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler. I appreciate the
Different nuances or versions of the songs here. It is not an AAA LP, just keep an open mind. I enjoyed listening to this LP…As far as I know all or most of the guitars of Marks’ heard here have been auctioned off, including the Les Paul on the cover. Total about $11Million US$ with 25% to charity.

FLIPPERS sitting on a stockpile of THIS pressing will need to find customers that play their records with a sewing needle. Tough going ... you're sitting on a pile of junk with this one.

My review. First of all the sound is good. No clicks, pops or other trouble. Nicely balanced, good stereo separation of the instruments, no muffled sound to it. It has a nice, dry 'punchy' sound. Now, the the songs. I know this album by heart, because it was one of my first CD's ever in the 80s. From a guy on Stevehoffman forum (hope it's okay to copy):
              Some tracks are different:
Sultans of Swing is the demo version. I see some people saying it's the UK single. I don't know what it is. But like DavidLG1971 mentioned in the post above, it can be had with full dynamics on other places. And without watermarking, it seems to me.
Portobello Belle is a different version from the 1988 release. Possibly the original mix?
Twisting By The Pool is a different mix from the 1988 release. If the original 1988 version contained a remix, it's possible this 2022 remaster contains the original mix.
Where Do You Think You're Going is the same remix as on the 1988 version, but the right channel is considerably louder than the left channel.
Walk Of Life does not sync with the 1988 version and has a higher noise floor, so it probably comes from an analog source. The 1988 version syncs with the BIA version.
Telegraph Road seems to be similar to the original Love Over Gold album version, but without the fade-out (or with a later fade-out). It also starts almost one minute and a half later. It starts from the piano, just before the first drum hit, without the intro synths. So it has to be a different mix (even if that's the only difference).
There last two tracks are different edits from the original 1988 version. Minor stuff, but there are differences. They are digitally identical to 1988 versions, except there are some cuts/edits. But they sync on the several parts between the edits/cuts.

I owned this record for about a week but I knew it was going back as soon as I dropped the needle on Telegraph Road’s quiet, moody opening. The noisy GZ pressing (redundant, I know) completely ruins the amazing BG mastering which is still somewhat discernible under the sound of frying bacon. I realize and accept that vinyl is an imperfect medium but that does not mean we should put up with this level of crap. It’s not just this record/this time. I have sworn off records pressed by this plant no matter who remasters/cuts the lacquer or how good the source material is, simply because more often than not, it’s unlistenable. Tired of rolling the dice with these guys. Rant over.

So, i was little worried about this record, but i can say that my version sounds pretty good. Some pops during intro private investigations a start side D with telegraph road but all dissapeared with starting the song. My bad review goes to errors in song as it said bellow telegraph road not live, where do you think you are going different version etc. Its shame, because this is very nice best of and it could be even better with little more work on it.

I’m enjoying the sound of this release….thankfully. The bad reviews had me worried. My side 4 also plays quietly and without issue. All sides are quiet. Never had / heard the original release so not familiar with what the versions of each song should be - but happy with the ones on here.

I echo what a number of people have said. In fact I started with side 4 because of the bad reviews, having first given the record a good wet clean. Yes, it’s really not good. Some non fill at the start of Telegraph Road with associated “whooshing” and then random pops and other unwelcome surprises throughout the track. I hope the first 3 sides are clean as others have said, because underneath these problems the sound is very good indeed. Major quality control problem though.
