Edited 7 months agoI managed to find one of these orange marble pressings at the Junkstock event in Waterloo Nebraska. Picked it up for $150.
My copy is not perfect, it can be kind of noisy sometimes and there’s a few scratches on side a particularly on Hummer that caused a skip, but I was able to smooth out the grooves by using a toothpick, now they don’t skip anymore. The scratches still cause a pop, but it was still totally worth the 150 I paid for it.
I also have the 2020 remaster with MASTERDISK in the deadwax. This pressing sounds better than the remaster hands-down. Absolutely massive bass on this OG pressing. Very characteristic of a lot of American alt rock albums of this time.
So if you want this pressing go for it, but I personally wouldn’t spend more than $300 for a VG+ copy
Edit: IMO, the original cover is so much better than the 2011 redesign that alone makes this pressing worth it. -
Recently noticed an abnormal spike to my collection's max value and must have missed that $1,650 sale from June. Surely not legitimate, right? I'm not enough of a SP geek to know if the included comment is of any added value or significance, but it stated "Caroline 1740 1, 1993, gatefold, no cutouts, horizontal overlapped shrinkwrap on reverse as in photo, ? vinyl color, RARE"

I think it's been established that there are newer copies of this orange pressing (I know I bought my copy in early 2000s.) Maybe the matrix didn't change between pressings, but why isn't there a separate listing?
-
might be a hot take but is this pressing a bit underwhelming? maybe it's the price tag or knowing they had these in hot topic in 2002, but it's such a euphoric, majestic album and this sounds a bit flat and dry and quiet versus adding warmth or depth
-
definitely more of a peach color but wow, wasn't expecting a 90s colored press sounding good but this one is perfectly deep, lush and clear.
-
Hi, I own a sealed copy, bought before the introduction of the euro. I don’t want to open it, so no idea what colour it is. How to find out?
-
As noted by others there were definitely new orange copies in a bunch of stores in the mid 2000s. But other people got them in 1993 so I'm guessing they did another batch of orange when they did one of the black represses between 2000-2005. That may also explain why the orange is in 2x as many collections as the other 1993 colored variants.

I found this for $2 fricking dollars at an antique store and now I’m kicking myself because I love this album now a year after I sold it. GAAHHH
-
Awesome that this finally got recognized as official. Beware there are fully opaque super dark orange versions that ARE unofficial/boots.
