Edited 5 months agoMy copy is clean. Came to say this release is amazing between the bio packaging, the CD and the blotter sheet is fucking rad + The Universal Sigh newspaper.

I think I might actually still have this. Didn't like how Codex and Give Up the Ghost were separated, though.

Edited 8 years agoI was determined to find a quiet noise-floor copy of this record and so I now have three copies (!) in my possession. In doing so, I've noticed there seems to be at least two separate pressings, based on what I can tell from the matrix run-outs. Here's the information I can provide about differences between the different versions:
VERY LOUD NOISE FLOOR:
(Pressed by GZ Media based on the matrix runout formula)
[All machine stamped, bottom of text facing spindle; records have 'sharp' outer edges]
Side One: 91880N1/C(B) ENDLESS BRANCHES
Side Two: 91880N2/B(A) UNCONTROLLABLE
Side Three: 91880N3/A(B) A NEVER ENDING MESH
Side Four: 91880N4/A(B) INTERTWINED IN TO EVERYTHING
Release: https://discogs.futbolgratis.org/Radiohead-The-King-Of-Limbs/release/2851025
The parentheses are because of two copies I own w/ this machine-stamped, barely readable matrix, they have differing final letters coming after the '91880N#/' - these correspond to galvanoplasty. All the writing is in capital letters.
QUIET NOISE FLOOR:
(Pressed by Record Industry based on the matrix runout formula)
[All hand-etched, bottom of text facing outer edge; records have 'flat' outer edges]
Side One: 89184 1A TICK 001S Endless branches
Side Two: 89184 1B TICK 001S uncontrollable
Side Three: 89184 2C TICK 001S a never ending mesh
Side Four: 89184 1D TICK 001S intertwined in to everything

One other difference I noticed is in the CD packaging. The Record Industry version has a very faint, brownish reflective film over the package, while the GZ Media version does not. This is an extremely small difference and probably would be difficult to determine which it is unless you've seen both or are directly comparing them. Besides these differences, I wasn't able to find anything different between the blotter papers, newspapers, or outer OBD plastic. It would be very useful if others could mention how loud the noise floor is for their pressing. Hopefully this is helpful to some - unfortunately, if the GZ Media version is an intrinsically worse pressing, there's no way to tell until the OBD plastic is opened up and the matrices are examined. Cheers!
